Drawing A Sphere

If youre anything like me, you know drawing a circle is a challenge on its own. You have experienced the struggles of trying to draw a perfect circle and the shame of having to settle for one that looks--well--not like a circle. Ive always had the desire to draw, but not being talented in it has restrained me from even trying. In Mark Kistlers book, You Can Draw in 30 Days, Kistler shows that having the right attitude is as necessary, if not more, as having talent; that it is crucial to have when learning how to draw (3). This has motivated me to not only perfect the circle, but to draw a sphere.

To start, I drew a simple sketch of a circle.

Step 1: sketch a circle

Drawing a sphere is not just drawing a circle. Kistler explains: "To draw a three-dimensional picture, you need to figure out what direction the light is coming from and how it is hitting your object" (12). Because of this, I drew and indicated that my light source was above and to the right of the sphere.

Step 2: draw where your light source is

To show that my object is on a solid surface, I cast a shadow opposite to where the light source is.

Step 3: shade a shadow off to the side of the circle

To create a three dimensional look, I shaded inside of the circle. I shaded lighter as the shading curves up toward the light source. This technique is called blended shading. (Kistler 14).

Step 4:Shade in circle

To unify each element of the sphere, I lastly blended each shade in using my finger.

Step 5: blend in shades with your finger, add any last details
and erase unneeded lines, shading, etc.

By reading Mark Kistlers book, I now know that when drawing a three dimensional object, to add a light source and shading to show value and shape. Not only that, but Kistler taught me that in order to succeed in drawing, I must believe myself. Although, not everyone may believe this. What Rubber to Use for the Road

Most people dont seem to notice that different tires had different uses. When your one the trail your going to want to use the big bulky tires with lots of traction and not as much air, but its useless on the roads. When you get on the road you need to change your ties to, "narrower, smooth-tread rubber" (Pavelka 139). I use these tires most of the time on my bike and they work wonderfully, it also helps to pump your ties up to the maximum air pressure. When you do this it reduces surface area and friction.

The left tire would be one used for off road or mountain biking, the tread allows for more grip on the slick surfaces. if you are a major biker and need some better support for your tires you can get a four spoke tires that are tough enough to hold up off and on road, whenever you switch back and forth (Pavelka 140). I have personally only been able to use these only a few times but when I have they are clearly different from standard spoke tires.

Another way to improve your stroke is by lengthening your arm pull. When young swimmers first start out in the water, the most common thing for them to do is to pull with short choppy arms. It is much easier than stretching out to make your stoke longer. But they don’t know that making your stroke longer is something that can make you swim much faster. In the book it talks about this and it states that the best way to improve you stroke is by doing drills at a slow enough pace for you to focus on really reaching as far as you can out of the water and then pulling through the water (Laughlin 99). I still struggle with this when I swim because it is not an easy habit to break.

When I was at the pool I decided to try the drill that the book gave me. It says, “Go slowly. Your body is more sensitive to new sensations when moving gently through the water. You’ll have plenty of chance to pile on speed later” (Laughlin 99). When I was doing this is didn’t worry about the clock or the time it was taking me. I just focused on what the drill was telling me to do and why it would help me in the long run.

As you very well know a few "moments" ago we passed into the New Year and as the New Year is always a moment of remembering and recalculating ones year of his/her life I believe it is normal that I shall do the same. This is not my first try-out as owner of a blog and I must admit last time I was not sure where and how I was going or who was following me or commenting me - if ever! But this year I have learned much more about that from my fellow bloggers. I have grown slowly but steady and I have made friends and found out blogs that are now very dear to me and I do not miss any of their post. When another door closes another one opens and so I began my journey with this blog and started telling you the stories of The LadyBug. On the 14th of June 2013 I did my very first post as The LadyBug :)

Krakow Cologne How do I get there

Dear friends,

The easiest way to get from Krakow (Poland) to Cologne/Koln (Germany) is a combination of flight and ICE Train. My lovely half was in charge with the tickets this time and he found this precious plane tickets from Krakow Airport to Frankfurt, and from Frankfurt to Cologne train tickets. But not any train tickets: ICE Train tickets - if you do not know the difference, fear not! I shall explain ;) My husband bought the tickets around one month before our flight and they were quite cheap at the time - if you buy them in time they will always be cheaper ;) - so we had Lufthansa. And that was quite comfortable ;)

We had the flight Krakow - Frankfurt and when we got there we were waiting for our luggage. I think we waited around 30 or even 40 minutes until I finally went to the Luggage Claim Office and they stated that they were already sent to the ICE Train Station. If you buy the tickets together with the plane tickets, at the same time, the baggages are being sent to the Luggage Claim Office right next to the ICE Train Station. And back the same, when we came from Cologne we left the luggages there and we just walked to the Frankfurt airport with just our hand-luggage. I think that this is actually a good info! So note it down - if you buy the tickets together: flight + ICE Train than most probably you will find your luggage at the ICE Train Station ;)

I really liked the Frankfurt ICE Train Station and its dome-like architecture so I snapped quickly a few shots while my husband was out, smoking. We always make sure that we have enough time between the changes - over one hour, at least! - so that we would find everything in time. We could buy some water and smoke and I even relaxed and read a bit from my book.

Look there :) They even had screens showing promos of Game of Thrones. I can hardly wait for that show to start. I know it aint by the book but I am still rooting for some characters ;) And I am very glad I managed to read the books before the show came out. I really hope George Martin will not die by the time he will finish the last 2 books... I am eagerly waiting...

As ever, I was fascinated about the architecture design of the train station and snapped some shots for you lads and lasses to look upon and make up your mind if it is worth a look.

I am not sure if you can see this properly or if you need to enlarge the picture but it shows the end of an ICE Train and a blood stain. A blood stain like a wing of a bird... I think an accident must have happened there... I am sorry for the wee bird :(

As you can see, we had time to relax and I was even reading a bit. But let us go back to the wonderful ICE Train. The Intercity-Express (written as InterCityExpress in Austria, Denmark, Switzerland and, formerly, in Germany) or ICE is a system of high-speed trains predominantly running in Germany and its surrounding countries . It is the highest service category offered by DB Fernverkehr and is the flagship of Deutsche Bahn. The brand name "ICE" is among the best-known in Germany, with a brand awareness close to 100%, according to DB.

ICE trains are the highest category (Class A) trains in the fare system of the Deutsche Bahn. Their fares are not calculated on a fixed per-kilometre table as with other trains, but instead have fixed prices for station-to-station connections, depending on a multitude of factors including the railway line category and the general demand on the line. Even on lines where the ICE is not faster than an ordinary IC or EC train (for example Hamburg to Dortmund), an additional surcharge will be levied on the ground that the ICE trains have a higher comfort level than IC/EC trains.

The train was so silent and quick that under an hour we arrived from Frankfurt to magical Cologne, where my best friend and sweet heart Dana was waiting for us at the main train station. I might have had a small shock as we went to the metro-bus station and I catched a glimpse of the Cologne Cathedral through the main station - too bad none filmed me or took pictures as I think my jaw just dropped a few meters. It was already night and the gloomy and dark tower was looming over us... I think my heart might have skipped a beat and that is when I fell in love with the Dom!

We had a late night lunch/dinner at the chinese restaurant next to Danas place and the food was awesome! I cannot remember the names - to my shame! - but I can tell you mine was with pineapple and was kick arse! Look at my adorable lovely ones in the pictures below. How can you not love them?! I already miss you, Dana :*

So this is basically how we got from Krakow to Cologne and our first evening in town. If you stay put and behave nicely, for the next #traveltuesday I shall tell you more about our first full day in Cologne, when Dana took us for the Cathedral and the Hohenzollern Bridge. So I guess that means, see you soon ;)
